Why don’t my configuration changes to WinZip E-Mail Companion seem to get saved?
WinZip® E-Mail Companion configuration changes can be made globally or locally. Global configuration changes are applied to any new e-mail you create. Local changes are only applied to the current e-mail.
Global Configuration
The main configuration dialog or ‘global’ configuration dialog can be opened from the main window (not from a message) in Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail. Changes made using this dialog will be saved and will affect all new messages. To open the configuration dialog:
- Microsoft Outlook: Click Options in the main window's Tools menu and select the WinZip E-Mail Companion tab.
- Outlook Express/Windows Mail: Click WinZip E-Mail Companion Options in the main window's Tools menu.
Local Configuration
WinZip E-Mail Companion also gives you the option to make configuration changes that only affect the particular message you have open (a ‘local’ change). To make configuration changes that will be applied to all new e-mails, make a Global configuration change.
When you have an e-mail message open, the Tools menu and the WinZip E-Mail Companion toolbar (or the ribbon icons under the WinZip tab in Outlook 2007) show the current settings of the three basic Companion options (automatic zipping, encryption, and compression method):
![]() |
The first three menu entries and toolbar buttons (or ribbon icons for Outlook 2007) indicate your current settings for this e-mail message. The menu and toolbar shown above indicate that automatic zipping is enabled, but encryption and "best" compression are disabled.
- Note that these entries, buttons, and icons do not appear if you have selected prompted zipping, because you will specify zipping, encryption, and compression options in the dialog that appears when you click Send.
Additional information regarding Configuring WinZip E-Mail Companion can be found in the E-Mail Companion help file.
